Welcome to a world where nightmarish creatures reign supreme.
Five hundred years ago, Jack made a deal with the devil. It’s difficult for him to remember much about his mortal days. So, he focuses on fulfilling his sentence as a Lantern—one of the watchmen who guard the portals to the Otherworld, a realm crawling with every nightmarish creature imaginable. Jack has spent centuries jumping from town to town, ensuring that nary a mortal—or not-so-mortal—soul slips past him. That is, until he meets beautiful Ember O’Dare.
Seventeen, stubborn, and a natural-born witch, Ember feels a strong pull to the Otherworld. Undeterred by Jack’s warnings, she crosses into the forbidden plane with the help of a mysterious and debonair vampire—and the chase through a dazzling, dangerous world is on. Jack must do everything in his power to get Ember back where she belongs before both the earthly and unearthly worlds descend into chaos.

Review of The Lantern’s Ember
Review (5 Stars): Colleen Houck is one of my favorite local writers and I was thrilled to get the chance to read her new book, which definitely doesn’t disappoint. The Lantern’s Ember follows Jack who made a deal to serve as a Lantern to protect the crossroads to the Otherworld. The world where nightmares and monsters are real where Jack must protect them from escaping at all costs. If that world is breached by a witch, the Otherworld and the human world will collide with disastrous consequences.
Jack hears of a new witch that has the ability to breach the portal to the Otherworld and he keeps a watchful eye over her to make sure that she heeds his warnings. When a charming vampire convinces Ember to go to the Otherworld, it is up to Jack to get her back before his world destroys the human world.
I loved this story!! The Lantern’s Ember was a enchanting tale filled with colorful characters, rich world-building and is perfect for Halloween. I enjoyed how the author provided a different take on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and how Jack was involved during different points of history where things ended up taking a supernatural turn. This cover is absolutely gorgeous and I hope that everyone gives this delightful book a chance by adding it to your TBR pile.
