Claire Fredericksson is the beating heart of CLUB DECEPTION, LA’s most exclusive magician’s society. She’s the Queen Bee of Magician WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends), and the genius behind her philandering husband Jonathan’s award-winning magic show. Claire’s life is upended by the arrival of two new women to the closed group of wives-Jessica, a young trophy wife with a secret, and Kaimi, an art expert looking for the long-lost Erdnase papers by posing as a girlfriend. When a magician rivalry erupts into murder, the women must uncover the truth and set things right for the men they love. With a cast of endurance experts, Vegas stage stars, and close-up card handlers, this novel weaves a tale of murder, fame, and many, many illusions.

Review of Club Deception

Review: (4 Stars) Club Deception shows what lies behind the curtain of the glamorous world of magicians and how illusions can ultimately lead to murder.  Claire Fredericksson is the perfect Femme Fatale and holds all the cards to the infamous Club Deception, an exclusive magician society, and knows everyone secrets.  When two new members arrive to be included in the fold, Claire shows them what it means to be a magician’s wife and how each relationship isn’t exactly what it seems.  When Claire’s husband ends up dead, the darkness behind the spotlight is revealed and a killer must be found before it is too late.

Claire was a great character in this story because she was the brains and the beauty behind it all. She was a force to be reckoned with and knew what it took to get ahead in the cutthroat world of magic.  It was interesting learning the secrets behind some of the tricks and watching this world through the fresh eyes of newcomers, Jessica and Kaimi.  My only complaint would be the pacing of this book because it was slow in a couple parts but quickly picked up the pace as we raced to find out who killed Claire’s husband.

Ms. Skilton is a new writer to me and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Club Deception.  The story had entertaining characters and an intriguing mystery, which I loved, and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Skilton writes next.

Ooo this looks really interesting! I was obsessed when the second Now You See Me movie released last summer so finding a novel about illusions/magicians has been in my ever since then. PLUS I love a good murder mystery!
