Highly sought-after young cook Kat Holloway takes a position in a Mayfair mansion and soon finds herself immersed in the odd household of Lord Rankin. Kat is unbothered by the family’s eccentricities as long as they stay away from her kitchen, but trouble finds its way below stairs when her young Irish assistant is murdered.

Intent on discovering who killed the helpless kitchen maid, Kat turns to the ever-capable Daniel McAdam, who is certainly much more than the charming delivery man he pretends to be. Along with the assistance of Lord Rankin’s unconventional sister-in-law and a mathematical genius, Kat and Daniel discover that the household murder was the barest tip of a plot rife with danger and treason—one that’s a threat to Queen Victoria herself.

Review of Death Below Stairs

Review (5 Stars):  Death Below Stairs was a smart, sophisticated mystery with a charming and sassy heroine that you will instantly connect with.  Kat Holloway is a young cook that takes a position in a new household and soon finds herself involved in a murder mystery when her new assistant, Sinead, ends up dead the next morning.  As Kat searches for clues for the killer with the help of a mysterious Daniel McAdam, she learns that there is more to this case than meets the eye and she could be the next victim if she gets too close to the truth.

I loved meeting Kat Holloway because she was one of the best heroines that I’ve met in some time and I’m already a fan of this delightful series.  This mystery was well-written and very entertaining and I’m sure readers will love these characters, especially the dashing Daniel McAdam.  This is the first installment to this new mystery series and I’m excited to see what happens next to these characters in the next book, Scandal Above Stairs.  Death Below Stairs will sweep you off your feet with its charming dialogue and colorful characters and Ms. Ashley writing style will definitely keep you coming back for more.
