Leaving behind a failed career as a magazine editor and an embarrassing stint on a reality baking show, newly divorced lifestyle entrepreneur Hope Early thought things were finally on the upswing—until she comes face-to-face with a murderer . . .

Hope’s schedule is already jam packed with recipe testing and shameless plugs for her food blog as she rushes off to attend a spring garden tour in the charming town of Jefferson, Connecticut. Unfortunately, it isn’t the perfectly arranged potted plants that grab her attention—it’s the bloody body of reviled real estate agent Peaches McCoy . . .

One of the tour guests committed murder, and all eyes are on Hope’s older sister, Claire Dixon—who, at best, saw Peaches as a professional rival. And suspicions really heat up when another murder occurs the following night. Now, with two messy murders shaking Jefferson and all evidence pointing to Claire, Hope must set aside her burgeoning brand to prove her sister’s innocence. But the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she gets to a killer intent on making sure her life goes permanently out of style . . .

Includes Recipes from Hope’s Kitchen!

Why I choose a food blogger for my cozy mystery
by Debra Sennefelder

Since the announcement of the sale of my Food Blogger Mystery series I’ve been asked why I chose a food blogger as the protagonist for the series. There are a few reasons why I chose to give Hope Early the career as food blogger.
One of the things a writer who wants to write a series looks for is a hook. Something that is different and will stand out when she goes to query agents and editors. In cozy mysteries a lot of these hooks are the careers the story protagonists have. Now, we all know there are dozens of culinary mysteries, many of which I enjoy, so I needed a slight twist on the culinary angle. An amateur sleuth who is a full-time food blogger. Done!
Another thing I was looking for when creating the series was the ability to move the story out of the fictional town Hope lives in with ease. How many murders can Hope stumble upon in the fictional town of Jefferson, Connecticut? It would feel like I was populating half the town with future murder victims and murderers. I also knew I might get bored writing about the town book after book so Hopes’ profession allows her to travel. There are food blogger conferences she could attend, blogger events with brands she could travel to and she could also travel to judge food competitions. There’s so much she can do so the ideas are endless. Which is a good thing when you write a series.
When a writer is starting out she hears the advice of “write what you know” and that’s what I did with Hope’s series. I wrote what I knew about – food blogging. I began blogging after I became disenchanted with fiction writing. I was looking for a creative outlet that I had total control over. There wouldn’t be anyone telling me what to write, how to write or when to write it. No. I was in total control and I loved it. I learned a lot during that period of time when I published the Cookbook Diva blog. Then over time I began to miss fiction writing and I was being pulled in that direction again. After writing a couple of romantic suspense manuscripts I decided to try writing a cozy mystery again and decided Hope’s job would food blogging. I’ve used my own experience as a blogger to add a depth to Hope’s character, to give the reader a sense of what it’s like to work as a full-time blogger and it’s my hope the reader enjoys the small glimpse into that world.
Creating Hope’s character has been a rewarding experience for me. I began with a glimmer of an idea and shaped it into a multi-dimensional character. She’s not perfect, she has struggles just like the rest of us, and she believes in finding justice. I wanted to create a character that could be my friend and with Hope I did. I’d love for readers to enjoy spending time with Hope and look forward to her next adventure.

Review of The Uninvited Corpse

Review (4 Stars):  The Uninvited Corpse was an entertaining mystery with a delightful heroine and delicious recipes to die for.  Hope Early is trying to pick up the pieces after a failed marriage by starting a food blog and making a new career with her favorite hobby.  With her busy schedule of testing recipes for her blog, she finds a body when she attends the local spring garden tour.  To make matters worse, her sister becomes the prime suspect for the murder and Hope must put her baking skills on hold to find a killer.

This is the first book in a brand new series and I’m already hooked.  With a heroine that you will connect with and smart story-telling, this mystery is a winner.  I loved learning all about food blogging and I was jealous that Hope could bake the way that she could with all her scrumptious recipes.  I’m adding this series on to my auto-buy list and I can’t wait to read the second installment in the series.
