Pineapple Upside Down Murder (The Cast Iron Skillet Mystery Series)

Guest Post by Jodi Rath

Happy holidays! Today I drove to visit an ex-student. She was buying a copy of my first book Pineapple Upside Down Murder. As I was driving, I came to a four-way-stop. There were people dressed as Santa taking money for a charity. I happily grabbed all the change I could grab and gave freely with a smile on my face. A few minutes later, I pulled into the parking lot to meet my ex-student. A man in a large truck was backing out of a spot and didn’t see me so I stayed back and waited for him to do his thing. As he got his vehicle situated to go, he promptly honked his horn in anger and flicked me off screaming obscenities I thankfully couldn’t hear. I have no clue why. I was a smiling fool while all this happened still on a high from giving to a local charity for the holidays. I was doing nothing wrong; he was doing nothing wrong. My immediate thought as the smile left my face was “Yep, it’s the holidays, when you go from smiling and feeling all warm and fuzzy to wanting to pop someone in the face in less than a second.” That crazy time of year! LOL
Why am I telling this story? I realized driving home this was how I felt being a first-time mystery writer. Writing this book was fun and I feel a lot of pride with the accomplishment. Yet, many times I came close to banging my head against the wall and wanting to throw my computer out the door. Like many things in life, I have to take the good with the bad of choosing to be a writer. Its’ fun, something I’ve always wanted to do, but there comes that time to let it out in the world. That is frightening to say the least. Sharing something you’ve created is terrifying. I’m not a mom to human children (I have eight fur baby cats), but I can imagine parenthood would be similar. You have these kids then you have to trust them to go out into the world and trust the world with them? NOT! It’s difficult to let go of things we create.

Review of Pineapple Upside Down Murder

Review (5 Stars):  Pineapple Upside Down Murder was a deliciously delightful murder mystery that has recipes that are literally to die for.  Jolie Tucker is fun, strong-willed heroine that you will instantly connect with and her lovely restaurant, Cast Iron Creations, has me wanting to taste some of the amazing dishes that she described over the course of this great mystery.  I loved meeting her family and the quirky characters that she has in life including her best friend, Ava.  This mystery was well-written and very entertaining, which made time fly by while reading this story.

Pineapple Upside Down Murder is the first book in the Cast Iron Skillet Mystery series and I couldn’t get enough of Jolie and Ava.  This is the perfect start to the series and culinary mysteries are my absolute favorite.  I thought this mystery was a treat and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on book number two to see what happens next.
