Bob Miller, retired police chief and member of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society, is stunned by the arrival of his twenty-one-year-old granddaughter, Darla, whom he has never seen. Bob has been estranged from his own daughter for decades and hopes to make up for his absence in Darla’s life. But some of the ladies of the book club find their Southern hospitality strained as they questions the motives behind this sudden reunion.

After a dead man is found in Molly Mathews’s backyard, their concerns grow more serious. Lizzie Turner saw Darla arguing with the stranger the day before, but when the police question her, Darla proves to be an unreliable narrator.

It’s up to the book club to uncover the real story…before another victim is written into the plot.

About the Author:

erikachaseErika writes the Ashton Corners Book Club mysteries for Penguin/Berkley Prime Crime.  In a parallel life Erika Chase is also known as Linda Wiken. A former mystery bookstore owner (Prime Crime Books in Ottawa, ON, Canada), Linda is also a short story writer. She is a member of those dangerous dames, The Ladies’ Killing Circle.

Her short stories have appeared in the seven Ladies’ Killing Circle anthologies (three of which she co-edited), and in the magazines Mysterious Intent and Over My Dead Body. She has been short-listed for an Arthur Ellis Award, Best Short Story, from Crime Writers of Canada.

Before life in the world of mystery, she worked as an advertising copywriter, radio producer, journalist and community education worker.  Besides writing and reading mysteries, her other passion is choral singing and she is a member of two choirs.

Okay, maybe one more passion — chocolate!

She shares her house with Keesha and Mojo, her two Siamese cats. Actually, they allow her to live there.

HOT OFF THE PRESS: a new series looms! I’ll be writing the Culinary Cookbook Mysteries for Berkley Prime Crime as the “other” me — Linda Wiken. Look for it in 2016.  Stand by for updates!

Review of Law and Author
Review (4 Stars): Things are changing in Ashton Corners when a young lady visits, claiming that she is the long lost granddaughter of Bob Miller, retired police chief.  As they start the process of getting to know one another, a dead body is found in Molly’s backyard and Bob’s granddaughter is the prime suspect of the crime.  Now Lizzie must find a killer before another victim is added to the list.

Law and Author is a charming and engaging mystery for cozy fans.  I love every member of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society and each character brings so much to each mystery.  Lizzie is a great heroine who always finds herself in the middle of stressful situations but I love deciphering all the clues right along with her. This is the fifth in the mystery series and I enjoy each and every one of these delightful mysteries.
